The latest Watch initiative – Milton Keynes Dog Watch

Dog Watch has been set up in Milton Keynes by SaferMK, Neighbourhood Watch, The Parks Trust, Milton Keynes Council, Enforcement Officers, Wardens and Thames Valley Police. As a member of Dog Watch you will be out walking your dogs at various times of the day covering large areas of Milton Keynes and this can have an impact on reducing crime. Most criminals will not break into cars or houses if somebody is walking by. We encourage you to report anything suspicious by phoning the appropriate number provided in this pack. Full details can be found on the Dog Watch website.
Monthly updates from your neighbourhood police team
Of real interest to Neighbourhood Watch Members and Coordinbators are the links to, Have Your Say meetings (see panel on right). At Have Your Say meetings, you can meet your local Neighbourhood Policing team and discuss your concerns about issues in your area. The meetings are held across the neighbourhood at locations local and at different times. Occasionally, neighbourhood policing teams, with local council members, visit a number of streets and invite residents to attend an impromptu Have Your Say meeting, held in the immediate vicinity (for example, on the local green). There are also opportunities to voice your concerns through verbal or written questionnaires, leaflets and other printed materials from your local neighbourhood policing team. Neighbourhood policing teams sometimes use mobile police stations, often in rural communities, at public events and on the local high street, and you can visit the mobile station to have your say.
National Neighbourhood Watch Week – Monday June 14th to Sunday June 20th
To help support National Neighbourhood Watch Week, Milton Keynes Neighbourhood Watch are focusing their efforts on streets in Milton Keynes that have recently had a burglary. Oscar Hubert, Chairman of MKNHWA, said ‘We will undertake a leaflet drop to each household with information about us, how to start a NHW scheme, about the alarms we sell, about how to secure properties and how to get in touch with us. Do you have a street near you that has been affected recently? Are you already a Scheme Co-ordinator and able to help us? If you would like to talk to us personally then we are at the West Bletchley Carnival being held in Rickley Park, 1-6pm, Saturday 12th June. Or just pop along, have some fun and say hello anyway’. Get in touch information about NHW, how to join, how to sign up for community messaging and how to get personal alarms is available from our website at www.mknhw.org. Dates and times when MKNHW are at the Community Kiosk are June Tuesday 22nd, July Tuesdays 6th & 20th, August Tuesdays 3rd & 31st, September Tuesdays 7th & 21st, October Tuesday 5th & Sat. 16th. NHWN - Neighbourhood & Home Watch Network (England & Wales), opens its new offices in Leicester. Leicestershire Constabulary have for the past three years supported the NHWN by providing the movement with an office and facilities for the national chair, Marion Lewis, at Harborough Police Station. Following a grant of £180,000 from the Home Office to NHWN, which is an independent charity, has been able to recruit three new staff to help support the 7.9 million NHW members and have relocated to a new office in Leicester, which was chosen because of its central location and minimal costs to the organisation. NHWN is the official body which represents all Neighbourhood & Home Watches across England and Wales. NHWN was set up in 2007 when the then national association went into liquidation. The NHWN was formed following extensive consultation with NHW members and associations. It is the only official national body which represents ALL NHW members in the nine regions of England and Wales and we are fully supported by the Home Office and the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). Chair of the Trustees of NHWN Marion Lewis said ’’ I am delighted that following a search which took us to view many offices across England, the NHWN has found ideal accomodation in such a central location.’’
